The 2010 edition of Sail For Hope is on October 2, and is sure be another epic sail around Conanicut Island. So many have played a big part in the original Sail For Pride in 2001, where we had over 180 boats of all shapes and sizes participate with ensigns proudly flying. Sail For Pride raised $110,000 for the Widows and Children’s Charities that were created to support the families of those lost in the attack on our country on September 11, 2001. After that first unbelievable year, we retired the name Sail For Pride and for the most part started concentrating on RI based Charities. Sail For Hope has since raised over $300,000 for RI and humanitarian based charities from 2002-2009.
Those helped by Sail for Hope include: he American Red Cross Fund for Hurricane Katrina Relief
The RI Community Food Bank
The Seamen's Church Institute
The RI Firefighter Widow and Children’s Fund
The Newport Harbor Master’s Emergency Equipment Fund
Public High School Sailing Teams
The United Way
American Red Cross RI
Family Services Fund
The Jamie Boeckel Fund for Safety at Sea
US Olympic and Paralympic Trials for Sailing
The NY Firefighters Widows and Children's Fund among others…..
Sail Newport is proud to have led this effort to raise funds and we look forward to raising funds in 2010 for our community. www.SailNewport.org

The Newport Bermuda Race is a 635-mile ocean race, most of it out of sight of land, usually lasting three to six days. It crosses a stretch of the Atlantic Ocean known for challenging weather, especially in the Gulf Stream, where there are strong currents. Every two years in mid-June, over 180 boats start from the historic seaport of Newport, Rhode Island. The fleet has five divisions to allow seaworthy boats of many sizes and types to be raced fairly and aggressively for an array of trophies awarded in Bermuda at an elegant ceremony at Government House, the residence of the governor of this tropical island.
In keeping with the 100-year traditions of amateur sailors and strong family spirit, 90% of the boats in 2008 had amateur crews comprised of friends and family members. The race maintains its international prestige through competitive fairness, an exemplary safety record, and a responsive race organization handled by the volunteer members of the Cruising Club of America and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. Sailors everywhere dream of adding the Newport Bermuda Race to their life list of adventures. For more information, visit www.BermudaRace.com

The seventh biennial New York Yacht Club Race Week at Newport presented by Rolex will be one of the most anticipated regattas in the country. No other sailing event has its unique split format for One-Design, Classic, 12 Metre and PHRF championships in the beginning of the week (Saturday, July 17-Monday, July 19) and IRC racing at the back end (Wednesday, July 21- Saturday, July 24) or the propensity for delivering that extra something that keeps it on the priority list for sailors serious about mixing hard-core competition with a compelling story line and good fun.
In 2008, host New York Yacht Club embellished Race Week activities with the unforgettable 100th birthday celebration of America’s legendary yacht designer Olin J. Stephens; in 2010, the club will ramp up for the integration of the Rolex US-IRC National Championship, an annual event that last year was held on the West Coast and this year is expected to attract participants from all corners of the country.
